Write Now!

Grab a notebook and pen, pull up a chair, and join me at one of the public writing workshops I’ll be leading this September. Keep in mind that advance sign-up is required, and the spots fill quickly.

Here’s what’s happening:

*Write Now! @ Folio Books on Tuesday, September 1 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

This monthly free-writing adventure is all about getting words on the page … without judgment or inhibition. We’ll use prompts from lots of intriguing sources to channel our muse … and best of all, we’ll walk out the door with more words on the page than when we came in.

To keep things cozy, we have eight participants maximum at this workshop. A donation of $5 reserves your spot at the table. Funds will go to support The Children’s Book Project, a San Francisco non-profit that helps build literacy by providing books to children who need them.

Advance sign-up is required through Eventbrite.

**Lunch Prose @ The Library on Tuesday September 15, 22, and 29 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Noe Valley/Sally Brunn branch of the San Francisco Public Library.

Did you know that Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lanford Wilson wrote his first play during lunch hours while working at a Chicago advertising agency? On his lunch break as an art curator, Frank O’Hara walked the streets of Manhattan, jotting down observations and ruminations that eventually grew into Lunch Poems, his acclaimed book of poetry.

Inspired by Wilson and O’Hara, Lunch Prose @ the Library, sponsored by Friends of the San Francisco Public Library, is a noontime word jam. I will dish up inspiring, imaginative prompts to get you started on your writing endeavor.

All genres and levels of writing experience are welcome and encouraged to attend this intimate 12-person writing group. Advance sign-up is required through Eventbrite or by calling the Noe Valley/Sally Brunn Library at 415-355-5707.

***Spontaneous! A Pop-Up Literary Salon on Friday, September 18 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at a Secret Location.

This exhilarating evening of literary spontaneity reimagines Gertrude Stein’s elite 1920s Paris salon by combining impromptu writing, dynamic open mic sharing, and lively conversation and socializing in a beautiful, light-filled Mid-Market art gallery.

I’ll create an energetic, supportive atmosphere suitable for all levels where you can flex your creative muscles, celebrate writing and self-expression, and connect with interesting people.

****Write Now: A Pop-Up Word Jam on Monday, September 28 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at a Secret Location.

We’ll take a page from the literary era of yore, when iconic writers like Hemingway, Anais Nin, and Allen Ginsberg gathered at beloved cafés from Paris to San Francisco to write. At this pop-up, we’ll come together as an intimate group to write after hours inside a cozy, charming coffeehouse.

For more information and to sign-up, visit Sosh.

If you have any questions about these workshops or the private workshops, retreats and one-on-one intensives, I conduct, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

I  look forward to writing with you soon!
